This balanced foundation makes it easier to layer both old and new elements without overwhelming the space.  

For example, if you have a vintage wooden coffee table, a neutral sofa in a modern fabric like linen or velvet will allow the table to stand out without competing for attention. Similarly, neutral wall colors provide the perfect canvas to incorporate bold, contemporary artwork or a striking vintage mirror.

Now, all that being said, if you love color and always have always painted your walls with colors other than neutrals, then keep on keeping on if you feel like you’ve been successful!
